A buddy of mine asked who would win Mr. Basketball next year and I had to say I have no clue. I think the junior class this year made as little impact as any junior class just about ever. I mean, at the state tournament. Noreen, Gruis and Yuri Johnson is about it, though Dan Kornbaum had a nice game. If I had to guess:

Finalists: Noreen, Gruis, Calcaterra, Jacob Thomas, and either D.J. Peterson or Cole Stefan

Mr. Basketball: If those are the choices, maybe Calcaterra

Some players I've noticed so far this spring.

Dyami Starks
Kevin Noreen
Chad Calcaterra
Taylor Filipek
Dan Kornbaum
Shaun Condon
Alex Hanks
Jordan Riewer
Jake Thomas

There is plenty of talent and competition this spring/summer and teams have had some success on the national level already. I encourage you to check out some of the tournaments.

From watching AAU and MYAS this spring, I think a player to watch is 6'7" Joe Beck of Lake City. Good rebounder, shot blocker and has some nice moves under the basket. The kid is big. Watch him if you get the chance.

Brian Hanson from Zimmerman.. Has a nasty turnaround ala Karl Malone. His teammates call him Brian "Buck Nasty" Hanson because of his muscular build and ferocious play dwon low. He dunked Jared Berrgren as a sophomore and broke his teammate Michael Jenson's ankle from a crossover. He has been getting a lot of attention from CGU and WQYU. Look out for this kid to be the next Marcin Gortat.

Is he on the 12 year plan?

Seems like he has been around forever

You're telling me. I've been guarding him since 7th grade! Ok, well 7th and 8th, then he went Varsity. But again last year and now this year.

Didn't Simonson get injured in football? Will he be 100% for the season?

Yes I heard he broke his arm in football. I also heard that Paine was hurt for awhile too, but not sure how true that was. The health of those players will have a big influence if Chisholm can repeat as section champs.

let me first congradulate ondarange for eclipsing the 1,000 reply mark. Secondly, is this "triple threat" really some the best players of 2010? Surely there are better players in the state.
