Section 8A

Postby NorthStar2423 on Wed Mar 07, 2012 2:07 pm

Who do you think is the favorite for this section? Cass Lake has emerged as one of the elite teams this season as always. I think the biggest sleeper team would have to be Mahnomen, They were one of the favorites coming into the season. They got off the season to a rough start when 1 of their 2 key players went out with a broken hand. They were 1-9 in the games they had to play without him and 11-3 the games they had him playing. They lost to Fertile and Fosston(Both section favorites also) both in the games which they didnt have him, and made easy work of them both with the games they had him back. Kittson County is also well but I see them falling in the subsection championship. I think the section winner will emerge from the top subsection.

Cass Lake has a good all-around team...and they're more of a team than they have been in former years (Wind carried them for 3 years and if he didn't play well, they didn't play well).

CL is a very physical team but lacks guard play. They have four guys that can bang on the boards and score. They should represent at State for 8A.

Lakeview will run the section tourney for 7A...handily.

The two subsection games couldn't have held more drama or excitement than those played last night. Fosston will go into the little Ralph looking to repeat as Section 8A champs on Friday night. The defeated a very good Cass-Lake Bena team on a last second shot. That culminated an exciting evening as Grygla/Goodridge/Gatzke beat Fertile Beltrami in and equally thrilling game. Nobody gave either of these teams a shot at being here at the beginning of the year, but they have proven exactly what 8A basketball has been the last couple years. Several teams that can step up and beat any other team on any other night. You wanna see a game, head up to Thief River Falls on Friday night, there will be no disappointment.
